4 tips for styling indoor plants

Here's how to apply Plant Design

You can now dream of the effect that 'plant first' furnishing has on your home. Now it's time to think about how to style your plants. We present: four Plant Design styling ideas.

Plant styling idea 1. Cluster your best plants

The impact of four plants grouped together is much greater than when they’re spaced out around the room. Have a go, and see for yourself how your plants work together and contrast beautifully with one another. What do you like? What suits the room? Play with heights, and use a few different statement pots. Plant design in clusters can create surprising and enjoyable effects, giving your home instant aesthetic appeal.

Plant styling idea 2. Arrange a colour palette

Houseplants come in a whole rainbow of colours spectrum of colours. Exciting, unusual combinations create an eye-catching feature in your home. Look to incorporate Dracaena Bicolor, polkadot Begonia or the multicoloured Aechmea ‘Blue Rain’ into your design scheme, for an effect that will really stand out.

Extend your personal style to the choice of pot. Colour-matching muted ceramics to your plants or sourcing gilt Baroque containers will elevate your houseplant arrangement into a true plant design installation.

Plant styling idea 3. Play with shape and design

Another way to create a design feature out of your plants is to work with different shapes. A trio that work well together are Peperomia 'Happy Bean', Alocasia amazonica 'Polly' and Alocasia Lauterbachiana. Tiny succulents also create unusual feature plants. Cluster a Crassula marnieriana with a Pleiopilos 'Royal Flush' and Chlorophytum 'Bonnie' to create a display that feels almost alien.

There are many varieties of houseplant with beautiful shapes that deserve their reputation of natural works of art. Place them in a prominent place in your house and watch how their presence single-handedly transforms the space. Plant styling idea 4. Plot for functionality

Your plant design can also be about functionality. As well as being aesthetically pleasing, design should serve a purpose, after all. You could therefore build an indoor garden according to the plants’ effects, such as creating a relaxed area with round, soft shapes and soothing colours, in the bathroom or bedroom. In the study, use plants that stimulate your brain such as cacti and aloe.
