Style trend: Harmonise

Your home is a green oasis with attention to detail

Harmonise is one of the four style trends for 2017, and places nature on a pedestal with plants which stimulate your senses and create their own indoor ecosystem.

In a time when everything is changing rapidly, nature is the only thing that offers certainty. Seasons change, plants have their own rhythm of growth, flowering and rest. Nature in all its aspects plays the leading role in this style, not only in the form of exclusive palms, but also with inside-out plants that bring your home and garden together or an all-round wonder plant like Aloe vera.

The mood of this style is one of calm and respect, rituals around a green home altar and plants to provide your house fragrance. The look can be rustic, the emphasis is on greenery with a healing effect like Aloe. Plants have a symbolic value, or get you thinking about the elements and how fascinating nature is.

Execution

Choose pots and dishes with natural (spot) patterns and botanic designs, such as ceramics with a rattan pattern. Metal and paper can be a bit irregular and weathered, combine wicker with wood, felt or leather or create coherence with paper. Place the plants close together or next to one another to make a mini garden. The plants should be accompanied by natural elements such as minerals, semi-precious stones, petrified wood and fossils to create a personal spot where you can find peace.

Harmonise colours

Mossy green tones are at the heart of Harmonise, supplemented with soft floral shades like pale yellow, pink and lilac. The patterns appear to have come straight from the woods: think of spot and splash patterns, but also designs derived from leaves and flowers. Together they produce a calm, friendly atmosphere in which the focus is on nature.
