Ten tips

  1. Give (larger green) plants less water in winter.
  2. The soil can be fairly dry from time to time.
  3. Better too dry than too wet. Too wet makes the soil acidic, which can cause diseases and leaf discolouration.
  4. Do not spray plants in the winter, as the water won't evaporate from the leaves.
  5. Do not give plant food (winter is a rest period).*
  6. Flowering plants can be watered as usual.
  7. *As long as there are flowers on the flowering plants, you can still give them some plant food.
  8. Too close to radiators is never good - the plants will dry out more quickly.
  9. As much light as possible is good - a bit of direct sunlight is fine as well, as it is not as strong as in winter.
  10. So in the winter, leave the plants alone as much as possible (except for flowering).
