Norfolk Island pine

A party at home!

Norfolk Island pine or Araucaria is a fresh-green indoor conifer that is at home in any living room. It is one of the two conifers that we use as houseplants, together with the Cupressus. Norfolk Island pines are characterised by the different tiers of branches on the trunk, with small, fresh-green needles attached to them. With good care, a new storey is added every year. The sturdy needles do not fall off, so the plant always stays beautifully green!

COLOURS AND SHAPES

Araucaria Heterophylla is the Norfolk Island pine you'll find in living rooms worldwide. Heterophylla refers to the different leaves, which are actually needles, attached to the plant. It's available year-round but is especially popular in the last three months of the year, as the plant is used a lot for around Christmas. This pine is related to Araucaria araucana, the snake pine, or monkey puzzle tree, a typical garden plant.

ORIGIN

Araucaria is the Latin name for the Norfolk Island pine. The plant belongs to the conifers and is native to the Norfolk Islands in the Pacific Ocean, north of New Zealand. In the wild, the tree can reach heights of more than 50 metres. In the house, it stays at a more friendly height of 50 cm - 2.5 metres.

symbolism

In December, the Norfolk Island pine is used as an alternative to a Christmas tree. Thanks to its beautiful tiers of branches, it is ideal for hanging baubles and lights. Definitely worth a try!
