Time for glamour!

Invite all your friends round for a glamorous gathering

In some ways January and February can feel like a bit of a let-down. The sociable holiday season is over, it’s still dark and cold outside, and delights of summer still feel light-years away. Time to bring some light to the darkness. Yes! But how? A glamorous gathering bursting with glitter and sparkle - and possibly some bottleds of bubbles!

What could be more fun than an evening spent together around a beautifully laid table, bursting with deliciousness? Lend a glamorous note to the evening by using gold elements.

You will need:

  • Gold spray
  • Eucalyptus leaves
  • Gysophila
  • Old newspapers or a mat that can get dirty

Spray the leaves and gysophila with gold spray. Make sure that the room is well-ventilated, and use old newspapers or an old mat to spray the leaves. When you’ve finished and everything has dried thoroughly, echo the golden elements on the napkins and on the bases of the Great Gatsby-inspired champagne glasses. Everything will start bubbling!

Don’t forget to scatter branches with eucalyptus leaves across the table: this looks very chic, particularly when combined with gold and a pastel linen tablecloth.

Roaring Twenties and flakes of gold leaf

When you think about glamour, you think about music. Dig out your LPs and take your guests on a tasteful and rhythmic voyage of discovery through the blues, the Roaring Twenties and the evergreen jazz classics. The dishes that you can serve for this evening are classics that stand out with their authentic flavours and colours that leap off the plate. Glamour also means extravagance, so finish the sweet desert with a salted caramel sauce and decorate it with flakes of edible gold leaf.

Until your head spins

Dig out your favourite shoes and dance until your head spins. Pour another drink and stay up till dawn. You can write the thank you notes a few days later, when the hangover has passed: maybe on an attractive plant leaf with gold marker or - even better - fix one of the gold-sprayed leaves from the dinner on a plain card with your note. Put it in an attractive white envelope and you’re finished. How much do you want to bet that one of your friends will want to have a party soon as well?
