Plant inspiration at the Chelsea Flower Show 2015

From the gardens of Chelsea to your own green space

If you’re looking for some fresh ideas to breathe new life into your garden, you couldn’t find a better haven of horticultural creativity than at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show.

From the beautiful to the downright bizarre – with its vast array of exquisitely designed and landscaped gardens, the world’s most famous flower show never fails to disappoint.

Hundreds of horticultural exhibitions, including no less than 15 show gardens, provide a wealth of inspiration. Here are just a few of the gems you can expect to see at this year’s show:

Sentebale – Hope in Vulnerability

A Royal visitor

This year sees the unveiling of Prince Harry’s Sentebale garden, modelled on a children’s centre in Lesotho, where his charity helps vulnerable children. Designed by Matt Keightley, the garden aims to raise awareness of Sentabale’s work in providing healthcare and education to Lesotho’s most vulnerable children. The design reflects the needs of the young residents as well as reflecting the country's rich culture and magnificent natural surroundings.

A Perfumer’s Garden in Grasse by L’Occitane

French fragrance, flowers and foliage

A must for fragrance lovers, A Perfumer’s Garden in Grasse is the creation of French beauty brand L’Occitane. Thanks to the support of ecologically minded companies such as L’Occitane, the perfume industry in Grasse is experiencing a welcome Renaissance after several years of decline – and this heady garden of sumptuous scents is a celebration of just that.  Create your own scented garden with fragrant flowers, such as dianthus, gardenia and clematis.

The Beauty of Islam by Al Barari

The beauty of Islam

Designed by Kamelia Bin Zaal, The Beauty of Islam “explores the relationship between humankind and the earth”. An inspiring and relaxing sanctuary, it is divided into four ‘rooms’ with water flowing throughout. Expect to see jasmine, rosemary and papyrus. The diverse range of plants has been chosen to represent “the spread of Islam and Arab culture” and “the growth of the Arab empire through trade, most notably the Spice Route.”

The M&G Retreat Garden

A very British retreat

A welcome retreat from the hustle and bustle of the show, Jo Thompson’s M&G Garden features is an oasis of calm. A two-storey oak-framed building inspired by Vita Sackville-West’s writing room at Sissinghurst, a large natural swimming pond fringed with water loving plants, a woodland of river birches, acacias and acers, and a garden with tumbling roses and peonies combine to make this a quintessentially English hideaway. Create your own relaxing water garden with a pond brimming with lotus flowers.

The RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2015 will take place between 19-23 May at the Royal Hospital. For more details, including ticket bookings, head to the RHS website.
