CHEERFUL PLANT POTS

Even if you're not the best at making things with your hands, this cheerful DIY is for you! Here, we combine brightly coloured plants with pots that kids can decorate with their own favourite colours. And the nice thing is that the end result will not only make you happy at Christmas, but all year round! Can't wait to get started? Discover the supplies and the step-by-step plan below.

  • Colourful plants in bulb form, cuttings, twigs and/or flowers (e.g. amaryllis, Christmas rose or croton)
  • Empty glass pots (e.g. use an empty peanut butter jar)
  • Optional: extra potting soil
  • Coloured tissue paper
  • Children's scissors
  • Children's glue
  • Optional: tea light or LED lamp

how to make a cheerful plant pot
Step 1

Visit the garden centre or collect some plants, twigs and/or flowers you have at home. It's fun to put cuttings in the pot so you can see the roots, creating an extra playful effect!

Step 2

Clean the inside and out of your empty jars so they are clean for your plant and degreased to make sure the tissue paper sticks properly.

Step 3

Let the kids cut their own shapes out of coloured tissue paper and stick them on the jars until they are happy with the result (or sooner than that, of course, if they have grown tired of crafting).

Step 4

Fill the pots with plants, cuttings or flowers. If necessary, add some extra potting soil to make your plant more stable in the pot. Ready to shine! Give your cheerful plant pots to family or friends at Christmas, or let the showpiece shine on your own Christmas table!

Tip: Are you making several pots? Then it's fun to alternate plant pots with lights. Place LED lights or tea lights in the pots so that the different shapes and colours of tissue paper on the glass give a beautiful effect. Perfect for the Christmas table or in your bedroom as a nightlight.
