DIY: How to make a wooden cube planter

A simple, stylish way to display your houseplants

We love this DIY planter project from Vintage Revivals. The Modern Openwork Cube Planter boasts a simple, minimalist design that would look stylish in any home. We also love the natural wood finish, which softens its angular form and makes it the perfect foil for your favourite houseplant or a new friend, perhaps a snake plant

What’s more, its simple design means it’s simple to make. Here’s how…

What you’ll need:

  • 1 x 12” terracotta planter
  • 6 x 1” square wooden dowels that (36” long)
  • Wood glue
  • Screws
  • Wood filler (optional)

How to make it:

  1. Cut 12 x 13-inch pieces of wood
  2. Put a dab of glue on the end of one piece.
  3. Join it to another piece of wood to form a right-angle.
  4. Secure the joint with a screw.
  5. Wipe away any excess glue and repeat until you have a square frame.
  6. Make a second square in the same way with four more pieces of wood.
  7. Attach the two squares by joining their parallel corners with the four remaining pieces of wood using glue and screws as before.
  8. Cover the screw holes with putty.
