Equipment

To make your own colourful pots just like these from & Other Things, all you need is:

  • An old terracotta pot
  • A cloth that you don't mind getting dirty
  • Newspapers or an old sheet to cover your work surface (optional)
  • Masking tape
  • A paint brush
  • Emulsion paint in a colour of your choice
  • Your favourite houseplant

How to decorate your pot

  1. Scrub your pot clean with a cloth under a gentle stream of warm water
  2. Cover a surface with newspaper or old sheets and place your dried pot on it
  3. If you are painting the rim of your pot, place masking tape just underneath the rim and paint above the tape
  4. If you are painting below the rim of your pot, place masking tape just above the rim and paint below the tape
  5. Leave your pots to dry
  6. Remove masking tape
  7. Pot your plant in your newly spruced up pot!

Top tip! If you are painting several pots, vary whether you paint the rim or the base of the pot to add variety to your plant display.
