DIY Autumn leaf fairy lights

Light up your home with a warm autumnal glow

We’ve all seen the countryside set ablaze with colour and light when the sun shines through the golden and russet autumnal leaves. Now you can capture that seasonal glow at home with these beautiful DIY autumn leaf fairy lights from Wallflower Girl.

Bring Autumn into your home

Fun, inexpensive and super-easy to make – what better excuse to get wrapped up and head to your local park to gather spoils? Stick to a single leaf variety, such as the iconic sycamore with its broad, star-shaped leaves – or create a more eclectic look by mixing things up with beech, oak, rowan and horse chestnut leaves. For the prettiest shimmering light effect, choose leaves across the autumn colour spectrum, from the palest gold to the deepest russet red.

What you’ll need:

  • A collection of autumn leaves
  • Wax paper
  • An iron
  • Uhu glue
  • String fairy lights

How to make them:

1. To preserve the leaves, sandwich each one between two sheets of wax paper and iron for a few seconds until the leaves have been sufficiently coated.

2. Once the leaves have been prepared, use the Uhu glue (or some kind of strong adhesive) to attach the leaves in front of each light bulb.

3. Hang on your bannister, inside your window, in front of your mirror or display in a clear vase!
