What you need:

  • Potted roses
  • Vase in a nice muted colour. You can also spray the inside of a glass vase with the colour of your choice: mother-of-pearl and metallic look fantastic for this potted rose trend.
  • Bundle of feathers
  • Clingfilm
  • Spray adhesive
  • Glue gun
  • Scissors

How to make it:

Step 1:

Wrap clingfilm from the bottom to around three-quarters of the way up the vase. This gives you a better surface to adhere onto, because glass and ceramic are often too slippery. You can also use this to give the vase a different look.

Step 2:

Stick the feathers horizontally on the vase from the bottom to the top. Use the glue gun on the hard shaft of the feather, and the spray adhesive for the tips. The colour effect of the feathers looks best if you alternate them left and right in turn and ensure that the layer of feathers covers well.

Step 3:

Pour a layer of clay beads into the bottom of the vase so that excess water can drain, and plant the potted rose in the vase. Do a bit of suitable styling, and you will have a potted rose that will give rise to plenty of 'oohs' and 'aahs'.  A nice twist on the familiar.
